The small, versatile black
The Nokia E51 is a beautiful, classically elegant business smartphone made of high quality materials and with a comprehensive functionality. Since I have a small and new smartphone with UMTS and WLAN searched, where I can also use my Blackberry service, I have landed at Nokia. Here is the test report.
The Nokia E51 is almost everything to go right through:
* Nokia E51
* Battery BP-6MT
* Travel charger AC-5
* USB data cable DKE-2 (mini USB)
* Headset HS-47 (stereo)
* CD-ROM with the current Nokia PC Suite
* various instructions
According to areacodesexplorer.com, the new Nokias are now delivered in very small boxes – quite in contrast to earlier, where mostly the air was the largest share. Quickly the battery and the separately purchased Micro SD memory card was installed in the mobile phone, only the metal back cover was in my eyes the first time a bit “hakelig”, because he was not easy to put on perfectly.
When I switched on, I had to deal with another problem, the power button has a very precise and hard pressure point, so the switching on with only one hand is almost impossible.
After the successful commissioning and a felt boot time of more than 60 seconds of the Symbian operating system, I was greeted by the Nokia device assistant, who had also asked the time zone about the time and date. Then I could get started and deal with the further subtleties of the Nokias.
Operation and special functions
With the silver control and the special buttons to the left and right of it, the operation is easy and fast, but only after a certain period of familiarization. E-mails or messages, the phone book and the calendar are quickly reached thanks to the special keys, and you can also quickly find yourself back with the help of the home button, once you are in the extensive Symbian menu. The keypad field is designed to be both great for phone calls and e-mails, and the pressure point of the individual keys makes you want to have longer emails, which are written quickly and securely thanks to T9. My QWERTY keyboards of the Nokia 9300 and my Blackberry 8310 I have only initially missed, now the work is almost as fast. The*and#key is doubled, so you can quickly turn Bluetooth on or mute the phone without changing the profiles. As a last improvement of the operation the back / delete key is mentioned, this is placed below the control cross and allows an even faster operation.
The display has a resolution of 240×320 pixels and is very luminous, it can be read both in the dark as well as in the shade or under a bulging summer with no problems wonderfully. A brightness sensor always ensures optimal illumination. In the area of displays, Nokia hardly makes a company a bit, only the displays of Samsung I personally as more intense. The telephony is no problem with the Triband GSM/UMTS mobile phone, the reception is always very good, even in poorly supplied areas, the voice quality is very clear and very clear. As a further feature, the E51 can score with a signaling LED, where missed messages and calls are displayed by means of flashing-so you can also recognize from a distance whether something is present.
Even if the Nokia as an E-series and thus as Business-Phone firmiert, one can still experience with the E51 Multimedia. The Micro SD memory card can be up to 32 GB and with the easy to use music player and the Real Videoplayer you can also listen to the music on the road or watch a video. Here, of course, also the good, powerful sound and the bright display its advantages. The supplied stereo headset is standard, but here you can connect any headset with an adapter jack (2.5mm to 3.5mm) to get a better sound. Thanks to the Bluetooth profile AD2P, the wireless enjoyment of music is no problem. There is the Nokia as version without camera and with camera, since here was only a 2 megapixel camera without autofokus was installed, I have renounced the camera. On the quality of the pictures I go in another test.
UMTS, HSDPA, WLAN (g), Bluetooth-almost everything is inside what is good and up-to-date. WLAN can be used for surfing, but also-and this is the really interesting here-for Internet telephony. One access point for the Voip telephony is set up quickly, there the integrated software provides a good support, a Voip access eg via sipgate.de is also set up quickly and then I can be called in every WLAN hotspot on my Festnetzrufnummer-but synonymous To the appropriate conditions of my Voip-Providers outgoing calls – no matter where I am in the world, my German Festnetznummer accompanies me. As already mentioned, the integration of Voip in the cell phone is excellent, even from the phone book you can decide whether I use the conventional mobile network or Voip to telephone. The wireless reception is also faultless, of course, a laptop with integrated double antenna already has its advantages in terms of reception strength, but for a mobile phone the wireless reception is really good.
The Bluetooth interface is also fast and easy to use, the coupling with any Bluetooth accessories or with the laptop ran smoothly. If no Bluetooth is available on the computer, the mini USB socket and a standard USB cable can be used for the connection. A data transfer mode is even possible, where the mobile phone is recognized as a removable storage medium.
How is the Nokia E51 in everyday life? With me always runs the Blackberry service in the background, the E-mails pushed immediately on the E51, I use the WLAN more frequently and telephone currently also relatively much. If I also use the multimedia functions with, I do not come to a standby time of over one day, but even to 2 to 3 days. Also otherwise, the Nokia is the perfect tool for all cases, whether as an email machine, organizer, telephone or multi-media machine. The processing is great, even after several days in the back Jeanstasche I can not give the mobile phone a knarzen.
The Nokia E51 is with me again a telephone, with which I have everything, including UMTS for the fast surfing on the road. The only thing missing is the integrated GPS module for navigation, but there are already acceptable solutions in the form of external GPS mice. The form factor of the E51 is very pleasant, it is neither too thick nor too wide, it is simply optimal in the hand. So if you’re looking for a universal solution for a phone, this is perfect. The Symbian operating system allows for almost an infinite expansion of the functions and with the energy, the mobile phone spares sparingly to achieve sufficiently long standby times-in relation to what it can do.
