ADMISSION CRITERIA
The admissions office uses the following criteria to evaluate applicants (not listed in order of important): GMAT scores, essays, academic record and college GPA, work experience, and letters of recommendation. Interviews are not required, but a visit to the campus is encouraged if at all possible. Writes the school: “Although grades and GMAT scores are important, other areas receive substantial consideration. Personal and professional goals, achievements, extracurricular, community involvement, and evidence of leadership and management abilities are considered in the admissions decision.” The school places a high priority on increasing the representation of qualified women and minorities in the program. Decisions are made on a rolling admissions basis. Advises the school, “Apply as early as possible.” After their files have been refereed to the admissions committee, applicants are notified of the decision within six to eight weeks. On a case-by-case basis, admission may be deferred for one year.

COST AND FINANCIAL AID
McCombs School offers scholarships, assistantships and need-based loans to its MBA students. The most prestigious scholarship is the Longhorn Business and Admissions Scholarships that provide assistance with tuition and fees for a limited number of outstanding applicants. These scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate a superior record of academic and professional accomplishment through their application materials. Additionally, the McCombs School of Business offers scholarships in smaller amounts ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 throughout the application season. For assistantships, the five individual academic departments within the School of Business handle Teaching Assistantship positions: Accounting, Finance, Management, Management Science and Information Systems, and Marketing. Each department has its own application process. Please contact the area in which you would be interested. Finally, there are many organizations both inside and outside of the United States that offer school loan programs. One of the prominent programs is GMAC’s MBA LOANS program, a financial service designed to help students gain access to graduate business education. The MBA LOANS program offers low-cost, complete funding that includes the Tuition Loan Program (TLP), GMAC's private loan program. International students may apply for the TLP by obtaining a creditworthy U.S. citizen cosigner.
