ADMISSION CRITERIA
Applicants are evaluated in three categories: professional promise, personal characteristics, and academic credentials. The Admissions Committee looks for well-rounded people from diverse economic, social, ethnic, geographic, and professional backgrounds. Idea applicants have demonstrated leadership, have the ability to work as members of teams, are active in the community, and can contribute to the academic experience of their peers. Requirements include: minimum two years’ work experience, GMAT, Bachelor’s degree, essays, letters of recommendation, and TOEFL for international students whose native language is not English.
ESSAY QUESTIONS
Please answer each of the following essay questions. Each essay should be typed and double-spaced on separate 8 1/2 x 11 paper with your name and the date of the final draft at the top of each page. Essay #5 is optional. The Admissions Committee is not looking for any “right” answers to these questions. Our aim is to get to know you completely. Please answer each question carefully and honestly.
1. What are your short-term and long-term career goals? How will the Columbia Business School MBA help you achieve these goals? (Limit 1000 words)
2. In reviewing the last five years, describe a situation in which you felt particularly effective as a member of a team. (Limit 500 words)
3. Discuss a non-academic situation in which you were disappointed in yourself. Tell us how it has affected you personally and/or professionally. (Limit 500 words)
