ADMISSION CRITERIA
The admissions office considers, in no particular order, the type of undergraduate institution attended, your GMAT scores, work experience, essays, academic record, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. Admissions recommend at least three years work experience prior to application; five years is average. adds the school, “As we put together a diverse class – one in which students can expect to learn as much from their peers as from the faculty – we look for strong leadership skills, maturity and initiative, demonstrated achievement, and the potential for career success.” The school has three decision deadlines; notification occurs within eight to ten weeks of the deadline.

1. What professional experiences have led you to pursue an MBA from the Johnson School at Cornell University and how does this degree fit into your future career plans? How will your knowledge and background enhance the education of your fellow classmates?
2. Answer one of the following two questions:
A. Leadership is highly valued at the Johnson School. Describe a leadership decision made by a person who you admired and respected. What outstanding leadership skills were demonstrated and what impact did the decision have on you?
B. In a recent lecture at the Johnson School, Benjamin Zander, conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, explained how he gets the most from his students. First, he gives them each an “A” in his course, then he asks each one to write him a letter dated one year into the future. The letter begins “Dear Mr. Zander, I received an “A” because…” and must then describe the person she/he has become over the course of that year. Write a letter to the admissions committee, dated at the end of your first year of your MBA program. The letter describes the person you have become during that year.
3. Answer one of the following two questions:

B. What is your definition of success? Describe the strategies you have employed in striving for success in your life.
